The State Museum-Reserve “Izborsk” solemnly opened the exhibition “Long live Pushkin and the celebration of his poetry!” today, April 25th. The regional newspaper “Pechorskaya Pravda” writes about this.

The exhibition was prepared by the State Archive of the Pskov Region with the support of the Russian Historical Society and the History of the Fatherland Foundation and dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin.

“It is very important for us that this exhibition is opening in Izborsk. Of course, during the anniversary celebrations a lot of people will come to Mikhailovskoye. But a lot of people also visit Izborsk. The May holidays are ahead and it is joyful that all visitors to Izborsk will be able to see our exhibition already on these days,” said Natalya Isakova, director of the State Archives of the Pskov Region, when opening the exhibition.

Archives and their documents played a big role in the life of Alexander Pushkin. He worked with them when he wrote the historical drama “Boris Godunov” and worked on works on the history of the period of Peter the Great and the Pugachev uprising.

The guests were welcomed by the head of the Pechora municipal district Valery Zaitsev. “It’s a joy to open such an exhibition on our holy Pechora land. Izborsk, like Pushkin, was, is and will be,” he emphasized.

Also the guest of honor at the opening of the exhibition was the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Culture of the Government of the Pskov Region, Vladimir Kuprin.

“This is a wonderful exhibition, especially in the anniversary year. It’s great that she will be working here. Getting to know such authentic documents, which are, of course, unknown to a wide range of people, will be one of the pearls of the entire large plan of events that is planned for this year in Mikhailovskaya and throughout the region,” he said.

Valery Zaitsev also noted that this exhibition could become an excellent educational material for local schoolchildren to study the biography of the great poet, and suggested starting with an excursion for Izborsk lyceum students.
