Stories that are well known from childhood… The exhibition “The Fairy-Tale World of Pushkin” has opened in the gallery of the Kaluga House of Music. The exhibition is part of a large exhibition project “A fairy tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it!”, which is based on the diploma works of students of the Kaluga College of Culture and Arts.

Huge works, amazing with the depth of thought and color… This is how the first viewers responded to the exhibition, and there were quite a few of them: famous artists, students of the painting department, schoolchildren.

The presented paintings could well become illustrations for Pushkin’s books, the author of the project, Natalya Karyakina, is sure. These are student dissertations. And here everyone sought not only to convey the plot of well-known works, but also to look at familiar texts from a different perspective.

“We looked at these fairy tales from the perspective of Pushkin’s philosophical views on human existence. In each story, we tried to convey this philosophical thought in a plastic and picturesque language,” says Karyakina.

The triptych about the Golden Fish became Irina Buldova’s calling card. Now the girl is a 4th year student at the Surikov Academic Art Institute. On canvas I tried to reveal the theme of relationships between people.

Irina explains: “Through this fairy tale, it was interesting for me to immerse myself and look philosophically through Pushkin at these things. They are comprehensive. They unite everyone. I wanted to immerse myself, to understand, they are probably the closest in meaning. Only 2 people. Their relationships, some kind of then the Divine principle exists, how all this is realized in life.”

And my colleague, artist Valeria Chernova, chose the fairy tale “The Golden Cockerel”. On canvas I tried to convey to the audience the leitmotif that I myself read between the lines.

The topic was that we talked about the soul and what happens when a person gives up his soul and makes some mistakes that do not lead to a good ending“, says Valeria.

In total, the exhibition consists of 11 paintings. They are complemented by graphic works and installations. Kaluga residents and city guests will be able to view the exhibition until May 29.
