Arkady Georgievich Shipunov – Soviet designer, developer of automatic small arms and cannon weapons for aviation, sea and land based.

Arkady Georgievich, having headed the Instrument Design Bureau in Tula in 1962, turned it into a world-class company for the development of various types of weapons: from small arms to high-precision missile systems.

Arkady Shipunov has 584 scientific works and 772 inventions.

On April 25, 2013, Arkady Georgievich Shipunov died at the age of 86. He was buried on April 29, 2013 at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow next to his wife.

The Tula Instrument Design Bureau is named after Arkady Shipunov.

On October 1, 2017, a monument was unveiled in Tula, on the square in front of the Instrument Design Bureau, which was headed by the scientist for many years. There is also a street in the city named after Arkady Shipunov. Another bust is installed on the Walk of Fame of famous gunsmiths near the new building of the Tula Weapons Museum

In the designer’s homeland in the city of Livny, on Arkady Shipunov’s birthday on November 7, 2017, a bust was unveiled and a new square was named after him.
