The government of the Voronezh region was puzzled by the quality of the road surface. For this purpose, the region is going to develop a new asphalt mixture. It should become more durable and better withstand temperature changes. The reason for the research of regional officials in the field of chemistry was the abnormal weather conditions in the winter and early spring of this year, which, in part, caused a large number of potholes to appear on the roads.
Let us note that this is not the first time recently that the leadership of the Voronezh region has recalled the problem of poor-quality roads. Thus, on April 12, a live broadcast took place at the Voronezh Regional House of Journalists with the participation of the regional governor, Alexander Gusev. During the broadcast, he answered questions from residents of the Voronezh region, simultaneously voicing the upcoming decisions of the regional authorities. Among other things, viewers of the broadcast decided to ask the governor about the reasons for the poor quality of roads in the regional center – Voronezh. In the second half of winter and early spring, melted snow revealed a large number of problems on city roads.
As it became clear from the words of the head of the region, these problems are associated not only with holes in the asphalt, but also with the materials used to repair them. However, Alexander Gusev tried to reassure the townspeople, saying that in the future the quality of materials will improve. For this purpose, road workers cooperate with the laboratory of the Basic University.
“In pursuit of the number of streets being repaired, we are going to reduce the cost by using materials that meet the minimum standards, primarily bitumen and crushed stone. We connected a laboratory from the Basic University to understand where we went wrong. To prevent roads from collapsing, the bitumen must be modified and the crushed stone granite. We will use it starting this year,” the governor said.
Let us recall that in December 2023, the Voronezh mayor’s office purchased 1,200 tons of so-called “cast asphalt concrete.” This is a special composition that is used in liquid form. According to municipal officials, the use of this type of asphalt makes it possible to carry out repair work on highways in wet and cold weather. At the same time, as soon as the warm season begins, the use of this composition is abandoned, giving preference to traditional composition options.
