More than 600 unemployed people in Karelia were able to start a business thanks to government support

In 2023, 630 unemployed people in Karelia received financial support totaling more than 118 million rubles to start a business, said Elena Frolova, head of the republic’s Labor and Employment Department, at a government meeting led by the head of the region, Artur Parfenchikov.

“Last year’s innovation: we increased financial support for opening a business for SVO participants to 400 thousand rubles and for their families to 300 thousand rubles. This year we started issuing increased assistance of 300 thousand rubles to parents with many children who decided to start a business,” said Elena Frolova.

Also in Karelia, the employment rate increased over the year from 53.8% to 55%. Today, more than 245 thousand people work at enterprises and organizations in the region. A year earlier there were 238 thousand.

Artur Parfenchikov noted that the trend of increased demand for workers in the real sector of the economy continues in the region, and unemployment rates have reached a historic low.

“Since the beginning of 2023, registered unemployment has decreased by more than 1.5 times. And today it is less than 0.7%,” said the head of Karelia.

According to Elena Frolova, regional support measures largely contributed to the stabilization of the situation on the labor market.

“The budget of Karelia allocated more than 178.9 million rubles last year for the retraining of citizens and supporting the entrepreneurial initiative of the unemployed, and about 18.5 million rubles were received from the federal center for measures to reduce tensions in the labor market,” added Elena Frolova.

Arthur Parfenchikov emphasized that an example of successful training of workers at the expense of the regional budget is the Arktika clothing factory in Kostomuksha. In 2023, with the assistance of the employment service, 155 people were trained for the organization. At the same time, they continue to train personnel.

On behalf of the Head of Karelia, special attention is paid to the employment of disabled people. In 2023, 40 jobs for this category of citizens will be equipped at the expense of the regional budget.
