Today, April 25, 2024, the XXIII Moscow Easter Festival started. The event opened with a performance by the Mariinsky Theater and Bolshoi Theater orchestras conducted by Valery Gergiev at the Vologda Drama Theater.

“Vologda became the first point on the route of the festival’s Symphony program. The concert of the United Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theaters conducted by Valery Gergiev was sold out, despite the daytime. Vologda residents were presented with symphonic works by Prokofiev, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky. The band will perform in Yaroslavl in the evening,” — said the press service of the Acting Governor of the Vologda Region Georgy Filimonov.

The band and the maestro arrived in Vologda on a special branded train of the festival, on which the musicians will travel 15 thousand kilometers and visit 24 cities of Russia.

The Moscow Easter Festival includes three programs: Symphonic, Choral and Belling.

As part of the festival’s choral program, on May 11, Vologda choral groups will perform at the Vologda College of Arts – the Academic Choir named after V.M. Sergeev, choirs of the Vologda diocese and theological seminary and regional college of arts.

On May 12, a concert of sacred music will be held at the Resurrection Cathedral with the participation of the Festive Male Choir of the Danilov Monastery and the Male Choir of the Vologda Regional Philharmonic named after V. A. Gavrilin.

On the same day, the festival’s ringing program is planned in Vologda. Bell ringing concerts will be held at three belfries: in the Spaso-Prilutsky Dimitriev Monastery, in the Bell Tower of the St. Sophia Cathedral of the Vologda Kremlin and in the Church of John the Baptist in Roshchenye.

It should be noted that this year the Moscow Easter Festival is being held for the 23rd time. Over the years, it has covered more than 145 cities in Russia and 5 countries.
