25th of April. The Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Irkutsk Region informed about the position of labor legislation regarding holidays and weekends in May. In 2024, the weekend for the “May” holidays will consist of two parts of four days: April 28, 29, 30 and May 1 – the weekend for the Spring and Labor Day, which falls on Wednesday, as well as from May 9 to 12 – four days weekends associated with the celebration of Victory Day. This was reported by IrkutskMedia news agency with reference to the press service of the regional government.
Additionally, this year, for the first time in the Irkutsk region, May 14, the United Day of Remembrance (Radonitsa), was declared a non-working (holiday) day.
Officially, the non-working day was adopted last year by the Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk Region and established by regional law at the proposal of Metropolitan Maximilian of Irkutsk and Angarsk in connection with mass visits to cemeteries, churches and other places of remembrance by residents of the Irkutsk Region.
Similar legal acts are in force in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, where this day is also declared a regional holiday and a non-working (holiday) day – in the Saratov and Penza regions, in the Stavropol Territory, the Republic of Adygea, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.
“We draw the attention of all employers in the region to the need to respect the labor rights of citizens, including when providing guarantees established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation regarding work on weekends and non-working holidays. As a general rule, involve employees in the performance of their labor duties on weekends and non-working days holidays are prohibited. However, in some cases, work on weekends and holidays is possible if there is a written consent of the employee and a written order (instruction) of the employer.
