The classic running marathon in the historical center of Irkutsk will take place on June 23. A large sports festival and running event will be held for the sixth time by the Slata company and the organizing committee of the BAM Marathons for residents of the region. The starting town will traditionally be located near the monument to Alexander III, reports the Slata press service.
– “Slata Marathon” is a massive running event in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. The number of participants is growing every year. Running is becoming a way of life for an increasing number of people, including children – Slata Kids is proof of this. And the author’s commemorative medal will motivate you to participate in the marathon every year for many years. So, this year’s symbol is the image Yakova Pokhabovaimmortalized in the monument to the founders of Irkutsk, located right on the route – on Nizhnyaya Embankment, – the managing director of the Slata retail chain shared the news. Last year, just over four thousand people took part in the marathon. The most popular distance over the years is the Slata Fan Run, which is three kilometers long. Half of the runners choose this distance.
Distances 2024:
- 1 kilometer – Slata Kids, children from three to eight years old;
- 3 kilometers – Slata Fan-run;
- 10 kilometers – Mini-marathon, one lap distance;
- 21 kilometers – Half marathon, a distance of two laps.
“There are more and more runners, and the level of running culture is getting higher every year. This is a nationwide trend in which Irkutsk does not get lost thanks to such large-scale events. Representing both the organizing committee of the event and the amateur sports community as a whole, I would like to note the attention and involvement of city authorities and partners, which makes it possible to implement such events. The objective result of this approach can only be assessed years later, because brick by brick we are laying the foundation of a healthy society in our region,” said the head of the organizing committee of the Irkutsk Marathon Artem Detyshev.
Special attention to children
The one kilometer long children’s distance Slata Kids is becoming more and more popular every year. Last year, more than 500 children aged three to eight took part in the race. This year, children are again expected at the start line, where everyone will receive a commemorative medal and sweets at the finish line. This year, children, along with adults, register online.
Distinctive medals “Slata Marathon”
Previously, the “facade” of the medals of the Irkutsk international “Slata Marathon” already showed the iconic symbols of the capital of the region: the famous Babr, a set of recognizable contours of the city’s architecture, the triumphal arch “Moscow Gate”, the appearance of the Okhlopky Drama Theater.
– Every year we choose iconic symbols of the city to capture them on medals. This year we remain true to tradition. The Pokhabov monument, like the previous symbol of the drama theater, is located right on the running distance. Therefore, thousands of Irkutsk residents and guests of the capital will get acquainted with another iconic symbol of the city,” added Artem Detyshev.
At the event, participants have the opportunity to make their medal unique – it will be possible to apply laser engraving on the back surface of the medal and record the result, day and place.

What is needed to participate
To participate in the race, you must register in advance on the marathon website irkutskmarathon.com, since registration is not carried out on the day of the race.
A medical certificate must be presented upon receipt of the start package by participants at distances of 10 and 21 kilometers. Participants in the Slata Fan-run distances of three kilometers and Slata Kids one kilometer are optional.
Every year, “Slata” invites and waits for teams to participate, where the organizers mark the team standings: “The largest team” and “The most original dressed and/or decorated team.”
