Today, April 26, from 15.00 at the intersections of st. Nemirovich-Danchenko – st. Vatutina and st. Nemirovich-Danchenko – st. Taimyrskaya in Novosibirsk will install and put into pilot operation innovative traffic light equipment. This was reported in the press center of the city administration with reference to the traffic management center.
These intersections are hotspots for traffic accidents. The main reason is the non-synchronous switching on of traffic lights: when the red signal in the opposite direction turns on, but the green one in the oncoming direction continues to light, or when the green signal in the same direction continues to light, and the oncoming one turns on red.
This happens mainly due to the fact that drivers moving in the same direction do not see which signal is on for drivers in the opposite direction. To solve this problem, the new traffic lights have expanded the IS function (Information section), in which, in addition to the usual ISPL signals “When moving left or right, give way to a pedestrian,” new signals will be introduced into the field of the IS section:
“Oncoming red” – to inform drivers driving on a green signal at what moment the red signal will turn on for oncoming traffic and it will be possible to turn left unhindered.
“Oncoming traffic” – such a signal will be turned on in a situation where the red signal is turned on in the opposite direction, but the green signal remains on for oncoming traffic.
“Caution pedestrian at the crossing” – this IS signal will turn on when the traffic light is red, located immediately in front of the pedestrian crossing, along which pedestrians are currently moving when the pedestrian light is green.
For pedestrians at a green pedestrian traffic light, a white arrow will turn on, informing them that they are crossing with traffic when moving at a green pedestrian traffic light.
Transport traffic light signals will be made in the form of arrows (T 2), showing the driver the traffic pattern at the intersection from a given approach with any traffic light signal: red, yellow, green.
When switching the additional section from a red to a green signal, the countdown display of the red signal of the additional section and information signals of white-lunar color will first turn on.
