An aerial bomb from the Great Patriotic War that was found in the port of Murmansk has been defused. Work to extract it began on April 26 at 06.30.

It took rescuers several hours to carefully approach the shell, tie it with special cables and load it onto a car using a crane. After which, the dangerous find, which had lain in the ground for more than seven decades, set off on its “last journey” to the place of destruction.

– Specialists from the Nevsky Rescue Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations identified the object as a German SC-1000 aerial bomb from the Great Patriotic War. This bomb contained 620 kg of explosive. As part of the preparation, all employees of nearby buildings were removed from the danger zone, a cordon was organized by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Murmansk Region and special escort from the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Murmansk Region, commented Alexander Shilnikov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Murmansk Region.

Let us remind you that information about the dangerous find was received by the regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on April 23 at 11.45. Experts went to the scene and identified the object as an aerial bomb from the Great Patriotic War.

A demining group from the Nevsky Rescue Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, consisting of six people and two pieces of equipment, immediately moved to Murmansk.

Employees of the Polar Emergency Department worked on site to coordinate the mine clearance work.
