In Irkutsk, telephone scammers stole over two million rubles from a local resident using a new scheme. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Irkutsk Region with reference to the telegram channel “You are being deceived.”

A 55-year-old Irkutsk resident, who works as a dentist, contacted the police department on duty. The man said that a girl contacted him and introduced herself as an insurance employee. She stated about the need to reissue a compulsory medical insurance policy and suggested updating the data using the State Services portal. After this, the girl asked the man to name the code from the SMS. Having received the data, she put the call on hold, but did not turn off the microphone and began discussing a plan to steal money with unknown people. The Irkutsk resident tried to block access to his personal account, but he was unable to solve the problem on his own.

After a while, another girl contacted him and introduced herself as an employee of the bank’s “security service.” She told the man about the loan applications that had arisen and offered to apply for loans in order to transfer the money to a “safe account.” The Irkutsk resident agreed. In total, he lost over two million rubles.

A resident of Markov also contacted the police. He was allegedly contacted by a specialist from the bank’s security service, who announced a threat of theft of money from an Irkutsk resident. The caller suggested transferring funds to a “reserve account.” Under the guidance of the scammers, the man transferred 450 thousand rubles to the specified details.

Two more residents of the regional center were injured using a similar method. In total they lost over two million rubles. In just the past 24 hours, four Irkutsk residents contacted the police with allegations of fraud.
