Rostov region, April 26, 2024. DON24.RU. Fraudsters always become more active before the holidays. They expect people to be in a relaxed state and let their guard down. What deception schemes are used by attackers most often, the Prime agency reports, citing Vitaly Fomin, head of the group of information security analysts at the League of Digital Economy.
“The most common type of fraud during the May holidays are phishing sites for selling airline tickets and renting housing. People are trying to leave the city, and scammers are using this for their own purposes. For example, they organize mass mailings of SMS, letters or messages in instant messengers with a link to a phishing site where you can supposedly buy tickets and tours at prices below market prices,” the source writes.
There are also diagrams:
- with invitations to sales and to participate in promotions and sweepstakes,
- with QR codes – even when renting a scooter, the code can lead to a phishing resource – when trying to pay, fraudsters will receive the victim’s card details,
- with artificial intelligence – a chatbot of any company can be a fake,
- with messages about winnings, for which you need to pay a tax – after payment, of course, the person will not receive any winnings.
“To protect yourself and your data, it is important check information about discounts, sweepstakes and other promotions on the official websites of companies and stores. Such resources always contain up-to-date and reliable information. When visiting a site, it is important to check the exact match of the domain with the official one – scammers can add or replace subtle characters in the address, such as “!” instead of “l” or “0” instead of “O,” the portal warns.
If money is stolen from a card, you must immediately block it, file a report of theft with the help of a hotline specialist, and write a statement to the police.
