A Chelyabinsk border guard was given 17 years for helping an illegal casino that earned more than 200 million rubles, reports a correspondent for the Access News Agency.
The verdict was announced by the Chelyabinsk Garrison Military Court.
It is reported that “the officer, being a member of a criminal community, being an employee of the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in the Chelyabinsk Region, for a bribe through an intermediary, contributed to the activities of an illegal gambling establishment.”
The court clarified that he “systematically provided the head of the criminal community with information about the operational search activities planned by law enforcement officers in relation to the illegal casino.”
“During the period of existence of the illegal gaming establishment, the criminal community received income on a particularly large scale – more than 200 million rubles,” the commentary says.
The court found the serviceman guilty of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 171.2 (organization of gambling), Part 3 of Article 210 (organization of a criminal community), paragraph “c” of Part 5 of Article 290 (taking a bribe) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, on the basis of which he imposed imprisonment for a term of 17 years in a maximum security penal colony. In addition, he was stripped of his military rank.
Other accomplices were also convicted, the CHGVS added.
The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed to the Central District Military Court.
