Alexander Fomin, accused of giving a bribe, the third defendant in the case of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, refused a plea deal. The Kommersant newspaper reported this on Thursday, April 25, citing a source.

The delay in the arrest, according to Kommersant, is due to the fact that he was thinking about a proposal for “active cooperation” in exchange for release from criminal liability. The publication writes that Fomin refused – he was charged on the evening of April 24, detained, and then arrested until June 23.

According to investigators, Alexander Fomin’s company was able to receive large orders from the Ministry of Defense allegedly under the patronage of Timur Ivanov since 2018.

Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov was arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention center. He was charged with committing a crime under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Receiving a bribe on an especially large scale”). The investigation believes that Ivanov entered into a criminal conspiracy with third parties, teaming up with them in advance to commit a crime by an organized group.

Next, the Moscow court arrested another person involved in this case – Sergei Borodin, who, like Ivanov, was charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It is clarified that the men were previously friends.

The investigation believes that Fomin provided services to Ivanov, Borodin and other persons in the form of exemption from fees for repairs or reconstruction.
