Tula celebrates the 80th anniversary of the formation of the 106th Airborne Division. It was on this day in 1945 that she was awarded her first order – the Order of Kutuzov, II degree.
Since July 1946, the division was stationed in Tula and was part of the 38th Guards Airborne Vienna Corps. On December 3, 1947, the division was awarded the Guards Battle Banner. You can read more about the history of the connection here.
The division’s fighters took part in hostilities in Chechnya and in the counter-terrorism operation in the North Caucasus. Currently, military personnel are participating in a special operation in Ukraine.
On August 13, 2015, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the division was given the honorary name “Tula”
Units of the 106th Airborne Division are stationed in Tula, Ryazan and Naro-Fominsk.
Alexander Nemolyaev, a holder of two Orders of Courage and a participant in combat missions, including peacekeeping activities in Yugoslavia, combat operations in the North Caucasus and a special military operation in Ukraine, took over as division commander in 2023.
