The command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces removed American Abrams tanks from the front line because of Russian drones

The American Abrams M1A1 tanks transferred to Ukraine no longer participate in battles, the Associated Press writes, the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces recalled them from the front line.

Because of Russian drones, two American military sources told the agency, these tanks are almost impossible to use in a combat zone – the drones track the movements of armored vehicles and attack them.

“There is no such open area that you can simply drive through without fear of being detected,” said one of the agency’s interlocutors.

Deputy Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Christopher Watson Grady said that the US and Ukrainian militaries are working together to find a way to use Abrams tanks “in a changed environment”, when all maneuvers are immediately known to the enemy.

The United States transferred 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in the fall of 2023. The Russian military announced the first knocked out of such a tank at the end of February. According to American media reports, at least five Abrams tanks were lost in Ukraine at the end of April.
