It has become a tradition in Kaluga to begin a series of festive events dedicated to Victory Day, April 25 – the birthday of the Honorary Citizen of our city, Great Patriotic War veteran Alexander Untilov.

Alexander Yakovlevich Untilov served in the Red Army from 1939 to 1948. Participated in the Soviet-Finnish, Great Patriotic and Soviet-Japanese wars. He fought on Kaluga land, near Kursk, liberated Ukraine and Belarus, and took part in the assault on Koenigsberg. For many years, Alexander Yakovlevich worked for the benefit of our city, and after his retirement, he headed the city council of veterans.

The memory of the front-line soldier was honored at a solemn meeting, Kaluga residents laid flowers at the memorial plaque in honor of Alexander Untilov.

“I had the opportunity to work with Alexander Yakovlevich, he was a wonderful person, a bright representative of the generation of winners, wise, kind, tactful, intelligent, with an exceptional sense of humor. He had unquestioned authority among veterans. Young Kaluga residents should know about him, we all must forever cherish the memory of our great fellow countryman,”

– emphasized the Head of Kaluga city government Yuri Moiseev.
