Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the third stage of construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline. As part of this construction, it is planned to increase the railway capacity to 210 million tons of cargo per year by 2030.

Members of the “Expert Club” of the Chelyabinsk region discussed this decision and talked about how the development of transport infrastructure will affect the state of the country.

Territorial connectivity of such a large country as Russia is the key to the further development of the entire country and its individual subjects. In this context, the attention that the authorities pay to the development and modernization of transport infrastructure is absolutely justified.

“I am confident that such attention to infrastructure contributes not only to economic growth, but also to social inclusion. Overall, these steps take our country to new heights in global logistics and highlight the country’s role as a link between Europe and Asia.”notes Nikita Takhirovhead of the historical club named after Evgeniy Shmurlo.

In addition, improving the country’s transport connectivity has not only an economic dimension, but also a security dimension. The movement of the country’s borders in the past was in many ways a search for boundaries that could ensure the country’s security, because the Russian Federation, unlike other countries, does not have natural barriers.

Some of those challenges of the past are still relevant today. The large-scale work announced by the state to modernize the country’s transport system is a response to these challenges, an attempt to level them out.

“And now the modernization of transport infrastructure is a vital necessity, allowing us to look confidently into the future, exploring endless spaces and building communication with the Republic of China, which is already friendly to us. Give me the highway of the century!– emphasizes Konstantin Kashin, history teacher at the South Ural State Institute of Arts. Tchaikovsky.

But not the Far East alone. Now we are actively building ties with the global south. Russian regions are beginning active trade with the countries of South and Central Asia. In this sense, the development of the international North-South logistics corridor becomes relevant.

“The Chelyabinsk region, which has great geographical advantages, may well become one of the most important links in such a logistics chain”– speaks Ilya Filoninhead of the secretariat of the Chelyabinsk branch of the World Russian People’s Council.
