We continue to introduce you to the circus artists of Buryatia. One of the experienced artists of the troupe is People’s Artist of the Republic of Buryatia Buyanto Tsyrenov.

After graduating from the circus department of the College of Arts, young Buyanto came to work in the circus. Since then, the entire fate of the artist has been connected with circus art.

Today Buyanto Batoevich is the head coach of the circus troupe, performs acrobatic stunts and performances with circus performers, and has become an indispensable teacher and mentor for students of the circus department of the College of Arts. P.I. Tchaikovsky. Colleagues respect an experienced senior comrade and always know that he will guide and give practical advice.

– Buyanto Batoevich, where are you from, what did you graduate from?

– I was born in the village. Shibertui, Bichur district. Graduated from the Republican Buryat National Boarding School No. 1. In the 11th grade, I became interested in the circus, and then went to study at the Republican School of Culture and Arts, now the College of Arts. P.I. Tchaikovsky. I was immediately accepted into the second year of the circus department, graduated and have been working in the circus ever since.

– Tell us about your students with whom you work?

– I recruited my first course of students in 2011 at the suggestion of the college director Lidia Vasilievna Loskutnikova. Among my first students I would like to mention the Honored Artist of the Republic of Buryatia Dulma Novokreshchenykh and Artyom Badmaev, who are currently the leading artists of the Buryatia circus.

In 2020, a new course was recruited, five students, among them Maxim Osin, Anna Shevtsova, Timofey Khaidukov, Artem Petrenko and Etigeltui Tsyrenov. All of them study at the circus department of the College of Arts. Tchaikovsky. Everyone has their own path and love for the circus. The guys and I rehearse almost every day; it’s difficult physical work and requires endurance. The guys already have experience performing in large programs: they take part in rehearsals and tour with the group. Next year they will graduate from college and today we are preparing a graduation program, performances in all circus genres: gymnastics, acrobatics, clowning, juggling and balancing act.

– What qualities are needed to become a successful circus performer?

– The most important thing is efficiency, perseverance, stubbornness and desire. Circus is not just an art form, but also a sport. Moreover, this is such an amazing combination of different types of art: acting, stage speech, choreography, plastic arts and, again, acrobatics, strength training, and so on.

– You tour a lot with the team abroad and in Russia. Where were your most memorable tours and why?

– Probably, I especially remember my first tour in 1999, we went to Dubai. For a 19-year-old village boy, it was a culture shock; it was the first time we flew on an airplane, saw this incredible country, the sea, sands, and sea urchins for the first time. We lived there for two and a half months, but the impressions will last a lifetime. It was very interesting! And then, of course, there were many trips to different cities and countries.

– Your wife Soelma and eldest son Etigel work in your team, and your youngest son Amar often runs behind the scenes. Is such a circus dynasty almost possible?

– My wife works as a ballet dancer, and at the same time is now engaged in acrobatics, and soon I think she will begin performing in circus acts. My eldest son Etigeltui, when he was in fifth grade, I sent him to a circus studio. After ninth grade, he told me that he no longer wanted to study there. I accepted his choice. Then he graduated from school, joined the army, and after serving, he consciously returned to the circus and went to study to become a professional artist. Today, as part of my students, he is honing his circus skills.

– What influenced your son’s choice in favor of the circus? Your example?

– Yes, most likely, it’s because I work here.

– If it were not for the profession of a circus performer, then in what area would you be able to realize your potential?

– In any profession. Many people say that I am a goal-oriented person. I always achieve my goals. When I recruited the guys, many did not believe that anything would work out. And now I can say with confidence that these are not just timid students, but almost professional circus performers. The guys are very diligent, disciplined, responsible, promising and I think that they are the future of the Buryat circus.

What does the circus give you?

– Communication, a special atmosphere of cohesion. Unity is especially evident on tour; we are family friends.

Are you a happy person?

– Definitely, yes!

– Thank you. Continued success!

Let us remind you that the activities of the Buryatia Circus are carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Buryatia and the head of the department Soelma Dagaeva. The Ministry successfully implements other creative projects related to federal programs, including the national project “Culture”, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
