In 2024, another 24 new types of playgrounds will be built in the capital, where residents can walk their dogs. They will be trained as part of the mayor’s “My District” program and the “Pets in Moscow” project, said Natalya Sergunina, deputy mayor of the capital and chief of staff of the mayor and city government.
According to Sergunina, by the end of 2024 in Moscow, modern sites will appear in 22 districts of the city.
“Among them are Tsaritsyno, Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo, Kapotnya, Nizhny Novgorod, Eastern Izmailovo, Southern and Northern Butovo. The leaders will be the South-Western and South-Eastern districts – six objects in each,” Sergunina said.
The deputy mayor clarified that the design of the spaces will take into account the wishes of Muscovites and the recommendations of specialists from the Russian Canine Federation.
The new standard includes aesthetics, comfort, functionality and the use of high-quality and environmentally friendly materials. The sites will be equipped with barriers, bridges and other exercise equipment for training pets. There will be benches and canopies in the recreation area for guests.
The “Pets in Moscow” project has been operating as part of the mayor’s “My District” program since 2021. At the moment, the city already has 59 such spaces in 46 city districts. Experts built some of them from scratch on vacant lots.
In 2023, Active Citizen held a vote on new infrastructure for walking, playing and training dogs. Three quarters of users rated it positively.
