Roads in Russia have been important at all times, Valery Kuzmin, a member of the Central Council of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists, Candidate of Historical Sciences, told PAI, answering a question about the importance of infrastructure projects in the field of transport for the development of Russia.
“Roads have been important at all times. And in the 21st century, perhaps more important than ever. Large construction projects continue in Russia. BAM and Transsib – strategic railway arteries will be modernized. In the Leningrad region it has become very convenient to get to St. Petersburg by car; in the Pskov region the repair and expansion of highways continues. There are also big plans on the Black Sea coast,” said Valery Kuzmin.
He also particularly noted the imminent start of construction of the Dzhubga – Sochi road. “It is expected that it will reduce travel time from the M-4 Don highway to Sochi by four times. Anyone who has ever driven along this road knows that serpentine roads are not the most pleasant pleasure. But the main thing is that the route passes through all coastal settlements. Entrances there, as well as city infrastructure, slow down traffic. If you look at the map, the distance from Goryachiy Klyuch to Sochi is nothing, but on average it took me seven hours. And in the summer season – up to 14 hours,” emphasized Valery Kuzmin.
At the same time, the new route will be laid directly to Sochi, and it will be possible to get to the city in just two hours, he said. “It sounds incredible,” concluded Valery Kuzmin.
Let us recall that the other day Russian President Vladimir Putin met with veteran builders of the BAM. The Baikal-Amur Mainline made the current turn to the east possible, and its modernization opens access to the growing markets of East Asia, he said.
