On April 26, the day of remembrance of those killed in radiation accidents and disasters, a memorial service for those who died as a result of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was held on the territory of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the city of Kurgan near the monument to the Trans-Ural liquidators.

The funeral service was performed by the head of the diocesan department for interaction with the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies, rector of the Church of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon in the city of Kurgan, Archpriest Vladimir Dedov.

The funeral service was attended by members of the Chernobyl Union organization, their relatives, widows of those killed and those who died from the consequences of the nuclear accident.

Before the start of the service, Father Vladimir greeted everyone who came to the memorial on the 38th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. “We have gathered to remember our deceased, who, without sparing their lives, gave their lives and health “for their friends,” so that our children and grandchildren could live happily. Let us remember that God has everyone alive, so today let each of you say “Lord, have mercy!” so that this common prayer of ours reaches heaven, and our departed feel that we love and remember them. Let us pray, because deep prayer will help our departed and will come from heaven to us from them“, said the priest.

During the funeral service, the priest read out the names of the deceased liquidators – more than a hundred names on four sheets of paper. Unfortunately, this list gets longer every year.

Having performed the funeral service, Father Vladimir sprinkled the participants with holy water.

At the end of the ceremony, flowers were laid on memorial plaques with the names of Trans-Ural Chernobyl victims.

The funeral service participants took a photo as a souvenir.

Chairman of the Kurgan regional organization of disabled people Union “Chernobyl» Sergei Mishkarev said that in the Kurgan region there were 2,131 participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, now there are less than a thousand of them left.

The man-made disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred on April 26, 1986. Then a powerful explosion occurred at the fourth block of the nuclear power plant, after which a strong radioactive release occurred. From 1986 to 1990, 2,313 Trans-Ural residents took part in eliminating the consequences of the accident.

Monument “Trans-Urals liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant» opened on the territory of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the city of Kurgan on April 26, 2011.

On the plaques of the memorial are several hundred names of Trans-Ural residents who took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident and died from the consequences of radiation exposure.

Previously, on the site of the monument there was a memorial stone installed on April 26, 2006.
