The operatives of the criminal investigation department of the St. Petersburg headquarters seem to have caught a big fish. The day before, together with a representative of Interpol, they detained 73 year old a Canadian citizen, whose namesake the US Department of Justice charged with offshore fraud, but could not get hold of because the man fled to a country with which the United States does not have an extradition treaty.
As Fontanka learned on April 26, the man was detained on Rimsky-Korsakov Avenue. The initiator of the search is Interpol of Panama. The citizen is charged with criminal money laundering.
A foreigner moved to St. Petersburg last summer for the purpose of work. The defendant was taken to the police department and reported to those who were looking for him. He has already been arrested in absentia in a criminal case.
