Forecaster Kolesov: the first long weekend in St. Petersburg will be favorable for the opening of the summer season

Residents of St. Petersburg who have not yet planned the upcoming long weekend can safely open the summer season from April 28 to May 1.

As the city’s chief weather forecaster, Alexander Kolesov, said, the prolonged cold snap is gradually being replaced by spring weather.
“For 9 days, the air temperature in St. Petersburg was below normal and from today the temperature anomaly should already be positive, since the night was quite warm,” the forecaster said in his telegram channel on Friday, April 26.
According to Alexander Kolesov, in the next few days, including the upcoming weekend, thermometers in the Northern capital will fluctuate in the range from +10 to +15 degrees, and at the beginning of next week, April 29, the air may even warm up to +20 degrees.
At the same time, the specialist warned that, despite the warming, the two upcoming nights – April 27 and April 28 – will be quite cold, and even slight frosts are expected in some areas of the Leningrad region.
“I’ll clarify the forecast for the long weekend tomorrow, but the weather prospects are very pleasant: increased atmospheric pressure, minimal precipitation and fairly warm air… Everything is favorable for simple relaxation and the opening, finally, of the summer season,” Kolesov emphasized.
The chief weather forecaster of St. Petersburg also spoke about the weather for Friday. According to forecasts, on April 26, the weather in the Northern capital will continue to be influenced by the atmospheric front, which will move to the northeast next night.
In the first half of the day the weather will be mostly cloudy, but no precipitation is expected, and in the late afternoon the sun will appear in the sky.
“The wind is weak and the air heating in the city today is expected to be the most significant since the middle of the month. On the day of April 26, the maximum air temperature should exceed +10 degrees,” summarized Alexander Kolesov.
Let us note that the day before rains and gusty winds arrived in St. Petersburg. The cause of the bad weather was the southern cyclone “Biruta”.
In the meantime, it was decided to postpone the citywide cleanup planned for April 27 to another date due to an unfavorable weather forecast.
