Moscow. 26 April. INTERFAX – The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has asked six airlines, including Aeroflot and Pobeda, for clarification on the pricing applied, the agency reported.

“FAS Russia sent letters to Aeroflot, Pobeda, Ural Airlines, NordWind, Smartavia, UTair about the need to provide explanations regarding the pricing policy being pursued, an analysis of the increase in the cost of air tickets and to send a commercial policy or other act defining to the antimonopoly service pricing for 2023-2024. The responses received are currently being analyzed,” the message says.

As the FAS explained, the agency has been receiving complaints from citizens about the rising cost of air tickets. An analysis of the dynamics of prices and flight loads showed that the formation of prices on individual routes “does not fully comply with the principles of dynamic pricing.”

“The agency draws the attention of airlines to the need to bring pricing into line with generally accepted standards and ensure the affordability of air transportation,” the FAS notes. “Signs of abuse of a dominant position are the basis for analyzing the economic feasibility of raising prices and taking antimonopoly response measures.”

As reported, in March of this year, the service opened a case against S7 airline because it did not comply with the department’s warning about the need to develop a pricing policy. Prior to this, the service established that S7, within the same fare subclass, sells air tickets at different prices. However, price differences are not related to the provision of services on board, additional costs of the carrier or the time before departure at which the passenger purchases a ticket.

First, FAS issued a warning to the company: it needed to develop and submit a commercial policy for approval. The carrier, however, did not comply with the warning and also tried to challenge its legality in court. The Moscow Arbitration Court, however, supported the position of the FAS.
