The Russian Football Union (RFU) said that the benchmark for the return of the Russian national team to participation in international competitions is the qualifying tournament for the 2030 World Cup.
The Russian national team has been suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA since February 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.
— During the period of suspension, the Russian national team must be provided with competitive playing practice and accompanying development projects, which will allow them to successfully perform at the World and European Championships in the future. The guideline for the return is the qualifying tournament for the 2030 World Cup, which starts in the fall of 2028, says a release on the RFU website.
The 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will also host one match each.
