In Samara, a major overhaul of the tram line on Novo-Sadovaya Street will start on April 29

--

During the work, citizens will be offered to ride free buses as an alternative.

At midnight on April 29, repairs of the tram line on Novo-Sadovaya Street begin in Samara. Recently, the issue of the need to put transport routes in order has become acute for the mayor’s office and its specialized departments. The condition of tram tracks is one of the important factors influencing the rhythm of transportation. However, due to the high load and intensity of tram traffic, the lines required updating.

It was decided to start this process precisely with Novo-Sadovaya, as one of the main streets of the city, and an important transport artery with high passenger traffic, including electric transport.

The renovation will take place in two stages. From April 29 to June 30, the section from Barboshina Polyana to Novo-Vokzalnaya Street will be repaired. The work will be completed as quickly as possible, but with complete temporary decommissioning of the lines. This is required by repair technology.

The city administration promises that the inconveniences associated with the temporary cancellation of trams on this route will be minimized.

“After the cessation of tram service along Novo-Sadovaya Street, an additional custom bus route will be launched. When determining the number of rolling stock on this route and flights, an analysis of passenger traffic was taken into account. The municipal enterprise “Tram and Trolleybus Management” entered into an agreement with the contractor for custom transportation. 30 medium-capacity buses will run from Tashkentskaya Street along Democratic and Novo-Sadovaya streets, to XXII Party Congress Street – to the Orange shopping center. After turning around under the overpass, special buses will go in the opposite direction – to Tashkentskaya Street,” says the deputy head of the Department of Transport of the City Administration. Samara Alexander Eropolov.

Passengers will board and disembark at all nine stops:

  • “Democratic Street”
  • “George Dimitrov Street”
  • “Kirova Avenue”
  • “Barboshina Polyana”
  • “Square “Sunny Glade”
  • “Amineva Street”
  • “Sunny street”
  • “Children Hospital”
  • “Plant named after Tarasova”

Bus travel will be free. They will begin plying the route at 05:30 and end at 22:20 with minimal intervals. During peak hours (from 05:30 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 19:30) the interval will be three minutes; at other times, buses will run every seven minutes.

Another way to get to the place will be the new commercial route No. 88. It will run on trial runs from the Mother and Child hospital, located near the Solidarity Samara Arena stadium, to the river station. Its route includes Novo-Sadovaya and Solnechnaya streets.

It is planned to use up to 15 buses for transportation. They will turn onto Solnechnaya Street in the area of the Cyril and Methodius Cathedral. Also, for the first time, the route will pass through the territory adjacent to the Arena MTL, from where buses will exit onto Novo-Sadovaya Street. This route was formed taking into account the fact that the reconstruction of a section of XXII Party Congress Street is currently underway.

In addition, the following tram routes have been changed during repairs:

  • No. 5: Fadeev street (Northern tram depot) – Novo-Vokzalnaya street – Novo-Sadovaya street – Lenin Avenue – Polevaya street – Artsybushevskaya street – Krasnoarmeyskaya street – Frunze street – Pionerskaya street – Chapaevskaya street (that is, the route coincides with the usual route routes No. 20 and No. 20k);
  • No. 7: plant named after. Tarasova – Novo-Vokzalnaya street – Stavropolskaya street – XXII Party Congress street – Pobeda metro station;
  • No. 11 (on weekends): Barboshina Polyana – Moskovskoe Highway – Solidarity Samara Arena stadium – Tashkentskaya street – Stavropolskaya street – XXII Party Congress street – Gagarin street – Industry street – Aurora bus station;
  • No. 12 (on weekends): plant named after. Tarasova – Novo-Vokzalnaya street – Stavropolskaya street – XXII Party Congress street – Zavodskoe highway – “Yungorodok” metro station;
  • No. 22: Barboshina Polyana – 15th microdistrict – Printing House – Postnikov Ravine – Chapaevskaya Street;
  • No. 24: Barboshina Polyana – Tashkentskaya Street – Pobeda Street – Zemets Street – Kostromskaya Lane.

At the first stage, it is planned to upgrade 3.5 km of single tram track.

“During the repairs within the framework of the first stage, we will update about 3.5 km. The workers will dismantle the rail and sleeper grid and down to the ground – the crushed stone base, will take care of utilities – arrange a storm drainage system. The pipes will be laid under the tram track. The presence of storm drainage will eliminate the possibility of flooding of the rails with rain and melt water. Effective drainage will have a positive effect on the rhythm of tram movement and on their performance, because when a tram has to overcome a section of a flooded line, electric motors and other equipment may fail. To ensure relatively purified wastewater enters the collector, according to the project, environmentally friendly filters will be installed in the wells to capture dirt and transmission oil. After completing the work on the utility networks, specialists will lay a new crushed stone base and replace the rail and sleeper grid,” says Mikhail Efremov, director of the Samara municipal enterprise “Tram and Trolleybus Management.”

He names the renewal of rails and sleepers as one of the main tasks – it was because of their poor condition that trams left them.

“On certain sections of the line, given the current state of the track, tram trains are forced to travel at a reduced speed – sometimes 5 km/h, that is, in fact, this is the speed of human movement. After major repairs on the new tracks, trams will be able to reach normal speeds – up to 20-22 km/h,” explains Mikhail Efremov.

The start date for repair work is set for a weekend, as passenger traffic is not expected to be as high. And by the first working days of May it will be possible to regulate and adjust the operation of transport to the needs of passengers.

The second stage of the overhaul will affect the area from Novo-Vokzalnaya Street to XXII Party Congress Street to the turning circle at the plant named after. Tarasova. The project is currently undergoing State Expertise.

If he receives approval, the procedure for identifying a contractor will begin, and then the work itself. The city administration wants to complete them in full by the end of summer.

Provided that a positive result is obtained, tenders will be announced in May to determine the contractor who will undertake the next stage of the overhaul. The period for the work is still being determined. There is an intention to completely complete the work by the end of summer.

“We will have modern, reliable tram tracks from Barboshina Polyana to the Tarasov plant. We hope that they will serve the city and passengers for many years. It is for this reason that we ask citizens to treat the upcoming large-scale work with understanding and patience, which will not be without temporary inconveniences. However, we will try to minimize them, thanks to all compensatory measures, logically “built”, adjusted tram traffic patterns,” says Alexander Eropolov.
