The International Panel on Climate Change has suggested that water levels may not rise above 1.1 meters by 2100. However, according to the latest calculations by scientists, if the air temperature on the planet increases by an average of 2 degrees, then within 80 years the level of the World Ocean will rise by about half a meter. And by 2300, the coastline will rise by two meters, writes the Russian Seven.

The waters of the Gulf of Finland will flood the coastal areas of St. Petersburg, part of Kronstadt and Sestroretsk. Naryan-Mar, Salekhard, Nakhodka will be unlucky. Scientists have also looked into the very distant future. They suggested that if all the polar ice melts, the waters of the Arctic Ocean will flow onto the Russian and West Siberian plains, and the only “island” will remain the Ural ridge.
