Eight million rubles in the account of a district police officer from Novosibirsk aroused the suspicions of the prosecutor’s office

The Novosibirsk prosecutor’s office appealed to the court with a demand to seize eight million rubles from the local district police officer. As reported by nsk.kp.ru, such a large sum, which unexpectedly appeared in the account of a law enforcement officer, raised serious questions from the supervisory agency.

Alexey Tivyakov, head of the department for supervising the implementation of anti-corruption legislation of the Novosibirsk Region Prosecutor’s Office, noted that the receipt of eight million rubles significantly exceeds the official income of the district police officer over the past three years. Moreover, the police officer was unable to provide a convincing explanation as to the origin of these funds.

In connection with the suspicions that arose, the prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit in order to seize the specified amount and return it to the state. Tivyakov also emphasized that since the beginning of 2024, the prosecutor’s office has begun an active campaign to verify the income and bank accounts of government employees, especially in cases where their accounts receive amounts that significantly exceed official income for the previous three years.
