On the eve of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Honorary Citizen of Saratov Alexander Bernadsky recalled that in four years the issue of restoring the memorial to the aircraft plant workers who died during the Great Patriotic War had not moved forward. He shamed the head of Saratov, Lada Mokrousova, for the red tape with the question, who reported on the work over the past year to the Saratov City Duma.

The monument was opened in 1969; more than three hundred names of the company’s employees who died during the war were carved on it. But in 2009 the monument was demolished. Now in its place is the Orange shopping and entertainment center.

In 2020, the speaker of the State Duma called the demolition of the monument vandalism, and those descendants who did it – pigs. He demanded that those responsible be punished. In 2023, the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered to initiate a criminal case into the demolition of the memorial.

Bernadsky said that over the past years the authorities have not begun the practical implementation of restoring the monument. “Four years have passed, there are three pipes. The problem is there is no money. I listened to your report – you have billions of investments, businessmen are sitting here,” said the honorary citizen. He invited officials and deputies to chip in – 12 million rubles for the restoration of the monument. To do this, he suggested that the mayor create a fund so that the memorial would be restored by the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

“It’s a shame,” Bernadsky concluded his speech.

“We are dealing with this issue. You raised this issue at the final meeting. We have raised all the documents. Now we are approving the sketch of this monument. We have not forgotten this topic. After this sketch is finally approved, we will decide on its installation,” Mokrousova answered.
