Differential electricity tariffs are being introduced in the Murmansk region

From May 1, differentiated electricity tariffs will be introduced, which regulate the cost of kWh depending on consumption volumes.
This practice is gradually being introduced in different regions from the end of 2021, and in December 2023, the Government of the Russian Federation approved a new procedure, according to which all subjects of the Russian Federation that have not previously switched to differentiated tariffs are required to do so during 2024.

– The logic of the changes is simple – if you are running a business, you must pay like a business. Thus, at the federal level there is a fight against “gray” mining. At the same time, the introduction of tariff differentiation will not affect the rights and legitimate interests of residents of the Murmansk region and will not affect the average monthly cost of electric energy,” emphasized Elena Stukova, Chairman of the Tariff Regulation Committee of the Murmansk Region.

At the moment, according to information from guaranteeing suppliers, the average monthly consumption per household in the Murmansk region for 2023 is 207 kWh, while the tariff increase is expected in ranges, the second of which starts only from 10,981 kWh, and the third assumes consumption electricity over 48,180 kWh.

– The difference between tariffs in the first two ranges is only one kopeck, and the threshold for the second range is equal to the maximum actual household consumption in the region for 2023. Exceptional consumers fall into this range. These could be private households with a very large number of energy-consuming devices,” explained Elena Stukova.

Moreover, despite the fact that the corresponding regulatory act will be adopted on May 1, the new tariffs will be applied in the Murmansk region only from July 1.
