In Kaliningrad, a 21-year-old courier of telephone scammers was detained, who took almost 2 million rubles from pensioners. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs on Friday, April 26.

In March, the guy took 1,873,000 rubles from five victims – elderly people aged 80 to 90 years. All pensioners received calls from unknown persons, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their relatives were responsible for an accident in which another person was seriously injured.

“In order to compensate for the damage to the victims and avoid initiating a criminal case, the attackers convinced pensioners to transfer money to a courier who would come to their home. The excited elderly people, without any questions asked, handed over the cash to the messenger, who transferred the funds to certain accounts, keeping 10% of the amount for themselves,” the police said.

Criminal cases have been initiated under Parts 2 and 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”). The investigation is ongoing.

In Kaliningrad, a courier of telephone scammers earned 200 thousand by taking money from defrauded pensioners.
