The Irkutsk region is home to 658 people injured during the cleanup of the consequences of the radiation disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. For them, the state has provided a number of benefits and compensations, reports the press service of the OSFR for the Irkutsk region.

The primary support measure is early retirement in old age. The parameters of this benefit are determined by the status of the liquidator or the victim:

  • For persons who performed work to eliminate the accident in the exclusion zone in the period 1986-1987, the retirement age was reduced by 10 years.
  • Liquidators who participated in eliminating the consequences of the disaster in 1988-1990 receive early retirement 5 years earlier than the established age.

In addition, disability and survivor benefits are provided for victims of radiation exposure. It is also possible to establish two pensions for liquidators and victims if they are entitled to an old-age pension and a pension for work in hazardous conditions.
