In Astrakhan they have begun to renovate Sverdlova Street. Road workers recently removed the asphalt. Below it, attentive Astrakhan residents noticed a real cobblestone street.

It is located on the Bolshie Isady market, near house No. 100 on Sverdlova Street. Local residents who are not indifferent to the history of the city called the State Service for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Astrakhan Region. The thing is that cobblestone streets are now a rarity in our city. The paving still remains on Gorskaya Street in the Trusovsky district, not far from the Meat Processing Plant. You can also notice the cobblestone pavement in the area of the Tatar-Bazar market on Kotovsky Street.

“There was a large isad in front of the bridge… I remember from childhood, boys in sandals, it was terribly uncomfortable to walk on it, my legs were twisting…,” says the Astrakhan woman (the author’s punctuation and spelling have been preserved).

But other Astrakhan residents did not agree with their fellow countrywoman. They claim that cobblestones are much better than asphalt. It’s all about the service life. Local residents claim that such paving is much more reliable than modern pavement. And, of course, it’s difficult to argue with the Astrakhan residents on this.
