More than 150 different events will be held in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2024. Deputy Governor of the region Oleg Berkovich presented a cultural program on April 26.

Let us remind you that in 2023 Nizhny Novgorod received the title “Cultural Capital 2024”. The first major event that the city will host in this status will be the annual multimedia art festival INTERVALS, which will be held from April 27 to May 1.

In summer, Nizhny Novgorod will traditionally host the “Capital of Sunsets” festival. Mary Gu (June 1), Sirotkin (June 8), Emma Smith (July 6), Valery Syutkin and Light Jazz (July 13), TheHatters and the Nizhny Novgorod State University choir (August 10) and Three Days of Rain will perform at “Shell” in the Alexander Garden (August 31). On Sundays in June and July, classical music will be played on stage. Also within the framework of the festival, the “Solo at Sunset” and “Iskra” projects will continue, and every weekend on Saturdays the “Gastronomic Christmas” gastrofest will be held.

The city will also traditionally host the festival of new Russian cinema “Gorky fest” from July 12 to 18, and the music festival “Great Rus'” at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on September 12.

Berkovich noted that an important event will be the big concert “Uma2rman. 20 years”, which is planned to be held at the Nizhny Novgorod stadium on August 24. The deputy governor added that the concert would be the end of a major festival on Strelka, but he promised to share the details later.

Pushkin Alexey Trifonov added that for lovers of classical music there will be an international music festival “Denis Matsuev Presents: Dialogue of Generations” on May 22-25, an international arts festival “Strelka” on May 31 – June 16, a summer international piano festival Pianissimo on July 8 – August 16 and festival “Contemporary Music: Shostakovich, Meyerhold, Schnittke” August 23 – September 1.

The Strelka festival will feature the La VoceStrumentale orchestra conducted by Fyodor Lednev, the Russian National Orchestra, as well as soloists of the Nizhny Novgorod Opera Theater and conductor Clément Noncier. Also on June 7-9, the premiere of the ballet “The Queen of Spades” to the music of Yuri Krasavin will take place.

In early July, the theater will present two more premieres: the project “Gorky. Ballet” based on the works of Maxim Gorky and Weinberg’s opera “The Love of D’Artagnan”.

On August 2 – 4 and 9 – 11, the “Specific” theater festival will be held, in August – the festival of street theaters in the “Switzerland” park, and on September 20-25 – the festival of Russian foreign theaters “Theatrical Autumn”.

At the Arsenal until August 4, the exhibition “Returned Safari. Contemporary Art of Africa” ​​is on display, and on April 27, the exhibition “I am speaking to you from Leningrad. The living history of the besieged city and its inhabitants” opens in the Manege of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Berkovich noted that for this exhibition, for the first time, the diaries of Tanya Savicheva were brought from St. Petersburg.

On May 17-19, the “Contour” graphics fair will be held in the parking lot of the Sheraton Hotel; from May 18 to August 25, paintings from the collections of leading Russian museums will be presented in the Exhibition Warehouse as part of the project “Russian Fair. From museum and private collections in Russia.”

From June to November, in the Conception Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, an exhibition of paintings from museums in 17 cities of the country “Russian Kremlins through the eyes of an artist” will take place.

Separately, Berkovich noted the All-Russian Biennale of Private Collections “The Art of Choice,” which will be held from September 13 to November 3 at 15 venues in Nizhny Novgorod. He emphasized that this is an all-Russian event, in which works from private collections will be exhibited to the public.

From September 23 until December, the Warehouses will host the exhibition “The Art of Immortality. Ancient Egypt,” which will present exhibits from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.

Nizhny Novgorod City Day will be held on August 17, but its program is still being approved. According to the deputy governor, it will definitely include the “Volga Fiesta”, “Volga Regatta”, concerts of local groups and a parade of wind instruments.

The city will also host three major marathons, due to which roads will be closed. On May 19, the marathon “Run, Hero!” will be held, from August 2 to 4 – a series of starts in the IRONSTAR triathlon, on September 8, the marathon – “Nizhny Novgorod”.

In addition, the region will host the Golden Khokhloma festival in Semenov, the Vyksa Festival, the Masters of Folk Brotherhood in Gorodets, Russian Tuscany in Vorsma, the Arzamas Domes and the 550th anniversary of Balakhna. In Chkalovsk, the Russian Wings festival will be dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Chkalov’s birth.

Let us note that, according to Berkovich, the “Yes, Chief!” festival, which took place in Switzerland Park, is currently in question. The government is negotiating its implementation.

There are no festivals planned in the Reserved Quarters in 2024 due to landscaping. Until the end of August, road relaying and other work will be carried out.
