The Tambov region joined the International “Garden of Memory” campaign. Several thousand pine seedlings were planted on the territory of the Gorelsky forestry enterprise.

“When planting, the most important thing is to prevent the root system from turning upside down and to avoid an air pocket when planting.”

After a brief instruction for those planting trees for the first time, participants in the “Garden of Memory” action took Kolesov’s swords in their hands and distributed themselves around the prepared area. The action is a tribute to the memory of those who laid down their lives for the sake of Victory over fascism during the Great Patriotic War. This year it was dedicated to several anniversaries of 1944, as well as the Year of the Family. That is why many came to the forestry enterprise with their entire families. Planting a forest is a team effort: one person prepares a hole, and the other immerses the seedling in the soil.

Valery and Bogdan Shirokov: “Yes, my son and I are helping. We’re planting, right, son? – Yes. – Do you like planting trees? – Yes. – Are you already a master at this? – Yes, this is my second time already. – What does it mean to you to come here with a child? “From generation to generation we need to show our children, first of all, that nature and we live in it.”

About 300 people took part in the action in the Gorel forestry enterprise. This is enough for each furrow to be planted on both sides by several groups at once.

“We are taking part because we believe it is very important for future generations. Leave them your memory. Yes”.

Representatives of youth organizations, labor collectives, volunteers, families with children, including relatives of participants in the special military operation, planted their tree in the “Garden of Memory.”

Olga Lapshina, widow of the Hero of the Russian Federation: “It means a lot to me. Great-grandfather fought. In his memory, in his honor. And now in memory of my husband, my wife.”

Pavel Yurasov, special correspondent: “Similar sites have been prepared on forest lands in all forest districts of the Tambov region for participants in the International “Garden of Memory” campaign. It is here that its participants will plant about 9 thousand pine seedlings.”

Seedlings are planted at a distance of 60-70 centimeters from each other. In such close proximity they will grow for many years before they become large trees.

Mikhail Satin, director of the forestry department of the Tambov region: “We look at the condition of the soil, because there is still snow somewhere, there is water somewhere. And somewhere the land is already ready for planting. – That is, the seedlings need to create more climatic conditions? – Certainly. Necessarily. Therefore, we always plant 100 percent in the spring, but some regions still plant in the fall. They don’t have time, or their soil is not suitable in the spring. – When should we come here to see the already grown Christmas trees? “Next year they will give an increase of about 5-10 centimeters and we will already see the result.”

The goal of the “Garden of Memory” campaign is to plant 27 million trees in memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War. 8.5 million trees have already been planted worldwide. These include cypress trees in Cairo, orange trees in Alanya, roses in Tunisia, and pine trees in Tambov.
