In 2024, St. Petersburg plans to close the issue of shortage of schools and kindergartens. Governor Alexander Beglov stated this at a working meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova.

City authorities expect to introduce a record number of educational organizations – 37 schools and 58 kindergartens.

The mayor noted that today one of the priorities is the training of qualified personnel. Therefore, St. Petersburg schools strive to equip them with modern technology and laboratories.

— The President of Russia identified ensuring the country’s technological sovereignty as the most important task. It is necessary to speed up the training of personnel for the economy, and we must start from school. We stimulate children’s interest in exact and natural sciences and equip schools with modern laboratories. In our schools, children can learn their first profession, receive a certificate and even work. There are currently 23 positions in the list of professions: laboratory assistants, draftsmen, counselors, junior nurses and others. This list needs to be expanded to include digital professions,” Beglov said.

In the next three years, the finals of the “Professionals” championship will take place in the Northern capital. According to the governor, this is a good opportunity to reform and improve the system of secondary vocational education.

“We want the guys not only to practice, but also to get their first work experience, participate in production, and receive a salary. There is support from industrialists. I am sure that this experience can be replicated in other regions,” the mayor noted.

Tatyana Golikova, in turn, stated that it was no coincidence that St. Petersburg was chosen as the host city for the championship.

— We spent a long time deciding at the federal level where the first championship should take place. And they chose St. Petersburg because they saw the city’s interest. And also that it can offer the best practices, since secondary vocational education is developing successfully here – it has its own personnel training methodology. And the city has invested a lot in the preparation of this championship,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
