The tragic news of the death of the coach of the Spartak-Volgograd women’s water polo team, Alexey Sigitov, was received by his colleagues. As reported to V102.RU at the club, Alexey Sigitov was a master of sports and a student of the local water polo school.

This is an irreparable loss for us, – Chairman of the Volgograd Region Water Polo Federation Alexander Glinyanov shared with V102.RU. – Alexey once trained with me, was a good athlete, and after finishing his career he became a children’s coach. He has worked at the club since 2010. His students loved him very much.

According to Alexander Glinyanov, Alexey decided to go to the Northern Military District at the end of last summer.

He was a true patriot, he volunteered for the Northern Military District, fought as an attack aircraft – he was on the front line all the time, – recalls Alexander Sergeevich. – In February he was wounded, treated in a hospital in Sevastopol, and then returned to the front line again. His mother was informed about Alexey’s death. We didn’t believe it until the very end, but, unfortunately, our hopes that this might be a mistake were not justified.

Alexey Sigitov raised two children. In the memory of his colleagues and his students, he will forever remain a modest, cheerful person who at a certain moment made his choice and put the defense of the Motherland first.
