In Tambov, on April 26, a mourning event was held at the monument to victims of nuclear accidents and disasters. It was attended by liquidators, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of the region. In memory of the heroic feat of those who died untimely and died from diseases due to exposure to radiation, flowers were laid and a minute of silence was observed.

“We are proud of these people and thank them for their selfless performance of their official and civic duty!” I would like to wish all Chernobyl veterans good health, long and happy years of life,” notes the Head of the Tambov Region, Maxim Egorov.

More than 600 thousand people took part in eliminating the consequences of the accident, among them more than two thousand residents of Tambov. Tambov residents, sacrificing themselves, managed to prevent the terrible consequences of radioactive emissions. The feat of the Chernobyl heroes will always serve as an example of courage, the highest professionalism and fidelity to duty.

Let us recall that on April 26, 1986, a nuclear explosion occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. About 500 settlements and 60 thousand residential buildings were exposed to radioactive contamination. The Chernobyl accident affected not only Ukraine and Belarus, but also Western, Eastern Europe and Scandinavian countries. The destruction was explosive, the reactor was completely destroyed, and a large amount of radioactive substances were released into the environment. The accident is regarded as the largest of its kind in the entire history of nuclear energy, both in terms of the estimated number of people killed and affected by its consequences, and in terms of environmental damage.
