NArFU Rector Elena Kudryashova presented a report to members of the trustees and supervisory boards on the main results of the university’s activities. Particular attention of the meeting participants was paid to the qualitative development of the university in the main areas of activity, such as education, science, international cooperation and educational work.

“We, in turn, are actively working to create a full-fledged system that unites science, business and government to achieve common goals to increase the level of socio-economic, scientific and technical development of the Arkhangelsk region,” noted Alexander Tsybulsky. – Today, the volume of government support for science has increased significantly, including taking into account federal funds raised. The material and technical base of NArFU is being updated, and co-financing of program activities is being provided.

The head of the region also noted the work of the university with industrial partners. In particular, the project that the university is implementing jointly with the AGD Diamonds company attracts attention. It is aimed at organizing high-tech production for the synthesis of diamond single crystals to support research and development in the field of quantum sensors, X-ray optics and other advanced areas of scientific and technological development.

Together with large timber industry enterprises in the region, NArFU is implementing a project to restore forests in the European North. Along with this, on the initiative of specialized farms in the region and with the support of the government of the Arkhangelsk region, the university is implementing a number of projects aimed at the pilot production of starter and production feeds for salmon and trout, which have already yielded the first results.

Separately, members of the trustee and supervisory boards discussed the areas of activity of the world-class scientific and educational center “Russian Arctic: new materials, technologies and research methods”, which correspond to the characteristics of the socio-economic development of the Arctic region – shipbuilding and ship repair, processing and use of Arctic biological resources and European North, human life and health in the Arctic, ensuring security, mining and processing of minerals, the work of high-tech industries, as well as areas related to the functioning of the Northern Sea Route and the connectivity of territories.

In the next three years, the university will continue to work on the transition of all areas of bachelor’s, specialist and master’s degrees at the NArFU branch in Severodvinsk to the Modeus platform for the implementation of individual educational trajectories.

At the same time, the university will prepare laboratories for new professional competencies: refrigeration units, polar meteorology, biotechnical systems, primary school pedagogy, navigation and others. The renewal of educational equipment, the purchase of simulators, virtual simulators and domestic PCs, as well as the creation of spaces for group work of students will continue.

After an extended meeting of the trustees and supervisory boards, the management of NArFU also presented the second phase of the Digital Arctic IT park to Alexander Tsybulsky and Alexey Kudrin.

As part of the second stage, a center for space monitoring of the Arctic, laboratories for satellite construction, technical information security, software and hardware for information security, digital transformation of the Northern Sea Route, testing grounds for robotics and UAVs, as well as co-working spaces and much more were put into operation.

“It seems to me that the IT park has become the leading department of the university,” noted Alexey Kudrin. “It not only trains specialists, but is also capable of transforming all industries. Today, data analytics and the use of artificial intelligence machine learning computer systems are included in all areas of life, so it is very timely that such an IT park has been created at NArFU. This means that the sectors of the regional economy will promptly receive the necessary specialists who can increase the productivity of enterprises, because they introduce new optimization processes.

The sustainable development of the Arctic is largely determined by the quality of human capital, which is why the functionality of the “Digital Arctic” is aimed at creating an Arctic interregional IT ecosystem for the formation of digital competencies of the population, training and implementation of technological projects of the digital economy.

“I consider this one of the flagship projects for the development of the entire economy of the Arkhangelsk region,” said Alexander Tsybulsky. – I have said many times that the most important competencies for the Arkhangelsk region are science and education, and in many ways this is where the future of the region’s economic development lies. I really like that on the basis of the Digital Arctic IT park we are able to implement two main directions: to train highly professional specialists in the field of information technology, which meets the needs of the future, but the second direction is even more important – the IT park should become a “home” for young people IT companies that could implement their projects here.

Let us remind you that the improvement of the IT park is included in the development program of NArFU until 2035 and corresponds to strategic documents on the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, reports the press service of the Governor and Government of the Arkhangelsk region.
