The average waiting period for housing from the state in the region’s districts is 40 years. In Omsk the wait for apartments is even longer.

There are 26,114 residents of the Omsk region on the waiting list for improved housing conditions, of which more than 19 thousand are waiting in Omsk, the Commissioner for Human Rights said at a press conference Irina Kasyanova.

As the Ombudsman explained, certain categories of citizens are put on a waiting list for housing from the state: low-income people, large families, families with disabilities, military veterans and many others. The wait for apartments is very long.

“The waiting period for free housing in the Omsk region and individual municipal districts averages forty years, in the city of Omsk it exceeds half a century,” Kasyanova noted.

A resident of the region, who joined the queue on May 14, 1971, has been waiting for square meters from the authorities for 53 years. Many people, without waiting for housing, leave for other regions. Someone on the waiting list dies.

The main problem of providing housing for those in need is financial. For the same reason, the state cannot provide the required apartments to all orphans.
