Residents can register to participate in theater laboratories, and independent theaters can submit an application to show their performances in the competition.
As the festival director said Natalia Slepchenko“Theater of Citizens” is a platform for creative and personal growth, cultural leisure, attracting new audiences to theatrical art, as well as creating a unified space for the development of independent theaters:
“Anyone can take part in our festival as a spectator or participant. We don’t really pay attention to profession, status or acting experience. For us, the main thing is desire, so we invite everyone to apply on our website.”
The project will be implemented in Sevastopol with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives for the second time.
The festival will consist of several stages. The first stage will last from June 16 to July 1. There will be theater laboratories (“Citizens’ Theatre” and “Storytelling Theatre”), where professional teachers will teach participants the format of the “Citizens’ Theatre”, acting, plastic arts and stage speech. Based on the results of the laboratories, the created teams will prepare and perform a performance that will take part in the competition.
The second stage – from July 1 to July 15 – is competitive. In addition to laboratory teams, independent theaters and theater associations from Sevastopol, Crimea and Russia will compete. The festival will also include master classes, a theatrical opening and closing.
“The main difference between our events is freedom of expression, environmentally friendly communication and lots and lots of creativity. The unique technology of the “Citizens’ Theatre” makes the theater accessible to everyone,” notes Natalya Slepchenko. “Thanks to this, last year the response to the festival was very warm. We managed to create a platform for the creative self-realization of city residents, so we immediately decided to continue.”
