80 years of exploits: the Tula 106th Airborne Division celebrated its birthday – News from Tula and the region

With an experienced eye, he noticed this massive trunk immediately. An assault paratrooper more than once found himself in his crosshairs in the air defense zone when he attacked fortified pillboxes. Now, in a calm environment, he is studying a NATO machine gun in his native unit. A stand with military trophies was prepared in honor of the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Tula Guards Airborne Division. Which all these years more than justifies the motto of the winged infantry: “Nobody but us!”

The 106th Guards Airborne Tula Red Banner Order of Kutuzov 2nd Class Division was formed in the crucible of battles of the Great Patriotic War. Since 1946, it has been stationed in Tula, and during this time it has glorified the region as the homeland of heroes and victors. At the ceremonial formation in honor of the anniversary, the 106th paratroopers were congratulated by the Governor of the Tula Region, Alexey Dyumin. The head of the region laid flowers at the monument to the paratroopers who died in the line of duty. Since the formation of the Division, more than 55 thousand soldiers have been awarded for heroism and courage. And at the ceremonial formation, this list was replenished with dozens of names.

Liberating Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Austria from the Nazis, the 106th Division reached Berlin. Then there were the fulfillment of international duty in Afghanistan, special tasks in Transcaucasia, Transnistria and Abkhazia, a peacekeeping mission in Yugoslavia, counter-terrorism operations in Chechnya, special tasks in Syria. Nowadays, Tula paratroopers successfully solve problems in the Northern Military District zone. Their successes were noted by the high command of the Russian airborne forces.

For those who are currently carrying out combat missions in the Northern Military District zone, another batch of uniforms and equipment was handed over. It included specially prepared UAZ SUVs – a pickup truck and a station wagon, diesel generators, drones, anti-drone guns, medicines and uniforms. The trend in recent months has been ATVs for heavy off-road use, which save lives on the very front lines.

The holiday was not without gifts. Modern digital and household appliances were transferred to the unit’s headquarters to make the paratroopers’ everyday life more comfortable. After all, after a short holiday vacation, they will again have to put into practice their main motto every day: “There are no impossible tasks.”
