In Sevastopol, the prize-winners and winners of the Olympiad on the history of their native city were awarded. As part of their study of Sevastopol studies, schoolchildren learn about key historical events, attend excursions to museums, and get acquainted with the biography of the workers and heroes of their hometown. And for more than 20 years, every year, students of Sevastopol schools participate in the Olympiad in this subject. The competition includes two stages: intra-school and citywide. This year, about two and a half thousand students in grades 5-11 took part in the Olympiad. 580 children passed the final tests, among them 104 prize-winners and 32 winners were determined.

EKATERINA POLIVYANNAYA, methodologist at the Institute for Educational Development of Sevastopol: “The assignments are compiled on the basis of textbooks for the Sevastopol Studies course; both textbooks and additional literature are used. These are traditional tests, historical concepts, events related to the history of Sevastopol, working with a map, working with historical figures, monuments, and so on. In recent years, we have been introducing tasks related to various anniversary dates.”

This time the Olympics were dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazi invaders and the 10th anniversary of the Russian Spring.

To take an honorable first place, a participant had to score more than 75 percent of the maximum possible number of points. According to the results of the final stage, the largest number of prize-winners and winners among the school students was 45 – 11 children received awards.

But, nevertheless, they went to rallies with their parents, parents and children went and voted for the return of our city of Sevastopol to their native harbor. They all have an active life position. They really love such a subject as history and therefore take an active part in our Olympiads in Sevastopol studies.”

The award ceremony for the prize-winners of the Olympiad in Sevastopol Studies took place in the hall of the Sevastopol branch of the Russian Economic University named after. G.V. Plekhanov. The children were awarded certificates and valuable prizes.
