Buried quickly: Novosibirsk authorities liquidated the city funeral home

The resolution on the liquidation of the municipal unitary enterprise “Specialized service for funeral matters “Funeral home “IMI”” was signed by the acting mayor of Novosibirsk Oleg Klemeshov on April 24, on the eve of the new mayor taking office.

The next day, the fate of the funeral home was discussed at a meeting of the City Council Commission on Scientific, Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship. The issue had to be raised unscheduled, and the proposal to recommend that the mayor’s office repeal the resolution did not receive the required number of votes.

The issue of changing the form of ownership of several large municipal enterprises was on the City Council’s agenda back in March. This was necessary in order to bring city legislation in accordance with the federal law “On State and Municipal Unitary Enterprises.” Then the fate of the registrar for the management of solid waste of the municipal unitary enterprise Spetsavtohozyaystvo, Novosibgortrans, PATP-5, Novosibirsk Pharmacy Chain and the Siberian Hospitality company was discussed. The last two should be liquidated by decision of the deputies, the rest should be corporatized. The funeral home was not discussed at that time, and why liquidation was chosen for it rather than corporatization in one form or another is unclear.

“The haste in making a decision is alarming. It is completely obvious,” the acting acting director commented on the decision. mayor, head of the funeral home, Sergei Bondarenko.

He emphasized that the funeral home, which has existed for 22 years, is a financially successful enterprise, involved, among other things, in a number of social projects (when the funeral is paid for by the municipality for various reasons) and provided long-term guarantees (trust contracts for funerals, when a person pays for your rest).

Finally, the funeral home also means jobs; at the moment, 40 people are constantly working there. The head of the enterprise insists that the optimal path for the company is not liquidation, but a change in the form of ownership, and he intends to contact the regulatory authorities with this proposal.
