St. Petersburg is actively solving problems in the field of municipal solid waste (MSW) management. Governor Alexander Beglov reported this to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a bilateral working meeting in the Northern capital.
“By 2030, the city will reach the milestone you set—it will send 100% of MSW for recycling,” said the mayor.
Over the past five years, the share of municipal solid waste sent for sorting and recycling has increased more than fivefold in St. Petersburg – from 10 to 56.9%.
Beglov also announced a significant improvement in the environmental situation in St. Petersburg: the volumes of separate collection of household waste have been increased manifold, while at the same time the number of unauthorized landfills within the city has been reduced several times. One of the most important environmental projects in St. Petersburg in recent years has been the launch of the first modern complex for sorting and processing MSW on Volkhonskoye Highway.
Let us also remind you that Beglov stated Putin that the auto industry in St. Petersburg has emerged from the crisis.
