On April 26, in the Volgograd region, specialists from the Russian Agricultural Center noted the summer of meadow moth butterflies on flowering weeds. This happened, according to experts, in the southern and central regions of the region.

The department noted: in warm and humid weather, mass reproduction of the pest can be observed. Taking into account the identified wintering stock of cocoons in the region and the high migratory ability of butterflies in strong winds, experts recommend that farmers conduct daily observations of crops. The fertility of females under favorable conditions is very high and reaches 100-600 eggs. In no more than ten days, caterpillars emerge from the eggs. The pest threatens leguminous, melon and vegetable crops.

With the onset of hot and dry weather, mass reproduction of cabbage moths may occur. This pest threatens cruciferous crops.

In the Volgograd region, the pest can develop in 4 or more generations. The beginning of the summer of butterflies of the overwintered generation has already been noted in the southern regions on mustard crops.

For all questions regarding crop pest control, please contact the regional departments of the branch or the regional plant protection department by calling 8-995-428-20-29.
