Five baby hares were brought to the Baltic Biosphere, which were found in different places in the Kaliningrad region. Yulia Sadovskaya, director of the wild animal assistance center, told Klops about this.

“The first three were found while mowing grass in Laskino, the second were found the same way, but I don’t know where exactly. The first three are quite stable, they eat well, and the last three were brought in only yesterday,” shared the head of the center.

In a few months, the cubs will grow up and they can be released into the wild, but for now they live at Yulia’s house. “They could already be transferred to an enclosure and fed with a special mixture, but for now all our enclosures are occupied. It would be wonderful if the dogs were taken away from us – this would free up space,” said Sadovskaya.

What to do if you find a bunny

Eared cubs can even be found at construction sites and in abandoned places. At birth, rabbits are covered with hair, they see and hear well, so a newborn can often be mistaken for an older animal.

“If the bunny is not injured, it was not brought by a dog, it is not the center of the city or an area where there are a lot of other animals or the grass is mown, and it is just sitting on some lawn, then under no circumstances should you touch it, pick it up or pick it up to yourself. Everything is fine with him, he is not lost and he does not need help,” said Yulia Sadovskaya.

Otherwise, you should contact a wild animal assistance center rather than try to remove the bunny yourself. According to the expert, the hare is not a cute pet, but rather an aggressive animal, especially during the rutting season. The chapter of “Biosphere” recommends not feeding the found hares and not relying on nutritional advice from the Internet.

“All the animals that came to us after feeding for more than one day were already death animals. The first little hare this year died because it could not eat. Those who found him fed him incorrectly, he inhaled the milk, and pneumonia began. Due to the fact that he could not breathe normally, he was unable to suck the pacifier. The animal simply died for weeks. We tried to cope with the disease, but nothing helped,” Sadovskaya shared.

A mother hare feeds her babies once a day: those who find such a baby should know that it will die of hunger within a day.

How to help the shelter

It is necessary to build several enclosures, including for birds. You need a 100×100 beam, a board, a batten. “Biosphere of the Baltic” will gladly accept fruits, vegetables, river fish, the simplest dog food and absorbent diapers. The center has a large debt for renting premises for a hospital – more than 100 thousand rubles. You can transfer donations using the link.
