A meeting of the Council of Legislators was held at the Tauride Palace, which brought together federal parliamentarians and officials. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko proposed that the Russian government determine a department that will be responsible for demographic and family policy. Matvienko said that Russia has the prerequisites for a “demographic spring.” In her opinion, the situation with low birth rates in the country can be reversed. The speaker of the Federation Council referred to the results of social surveys, according to which over 70% of citizens want to have two or more children.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also spoke at the meeting. He called the upcoming formation of a new Cabinet of Ministers the most important stage for the country, and also called on political parties to include members of the Council of Ministers among their candidates in elections at various levels.

One of the governor’s work priorities was to achieve St. Petersburg’s “level of a 21st century metropolis.” According to him, results in this direction have already been achieved in healthcare, education and the urban environment.

After the meeting with the president, Beglov told reporters about his nomination for a new term. The mayor said that veterans, blockade survivors and social activists asked him about this, and Putin supported the decision.

“He said: “Yes, of course, I support, but first of all, of course, this is the choice of the residents.” Therefore, he wished me success and told me to work as much as possible with the residents of our beloved city – St. Petersburg. Therefore, today I have already made a decision go to the elections for governor of St. Petersburg,” Beglov noted.

At the same time, State Duma deputy and co-chair of the Growth Party Oksana Dmitrieva denied her nomination for the elections.

The Eurasian International University (EMU) plans to build a campus in Lomonosov for 48 billion rubles. The academic campus will be designed for 18 thousand students from 30 countries; in addition to the university, there will be a maritime academy, a college, a medical institute and a cadet school. Investors have already purchased a number of buildings to implement the project; the first building is expected to open by the beginning of the new academic year.
