As noted by American media, the main purpose of Blinken’s visit to China was an attempt to warn Beijing about its support for Russia’s war against Ukraine. Blinken said during his visit that China supplies Russia with dual-use goods, such as machine tools and microelectronics. This makes China the largest supplier to Russia’s defense industrial base.
“Russia would have a hard time sustaining its invasion of Ukraine without China’s support,” the US Secretary of State said.
Blinken admitted the possibility of expanding US sanctions against China for helping Russia.
“In the case of the United States, we have already imposed sanctions on over a hundred Chinese entities, export controls, etc. And we are fully prepared to act, to take additional measures, and I made this very clear in my meetings today,” he said.
